Summer Load
April 11, 2006This summer (april-May) is supposed to be teacher’s leave for me and others who have been teaching for the past school year… This is a priviledge that is given to teachers only…
It’s really a blessing that teachers get to have summer vacation with pay…. other jobs do not have this kind of benefit. Vacation— hmmm I would really love to have ny whole summer devoted to my son and myself but… I committed to handle one of the classes for summer internship… Aside from the addtional compensation (that is a given) that I (teachers) will receive this summer when I (they) teach… it really is an opportunity to network with other agencies…
I broaden my horizon by meeting other people from partner agencies. I really look forward to a fruitful internship this year. We will be sending student interns to DA-CAR, Bureau of Plant Industries, Offices withing BSU, Child and family Services (NGO) and to radio stations in Bontoc and Buguias.
I will be supervising four students who will be working with me in developing our leaflets and bulletin board in the college…
There are a lot of things that students can learnp– if they have the initiative to learn… ut then some would say that— teachers should motivate students… It’s really ironic, for a person to be able to learn, s/he must have that desire to learn… because when they are do not have the interest to learn… then they would not learn anything…
Learning starts from one’s self. There are times when I teach students and some take things for granted so they just say yes or no to this and that… Some say yeas half heartedly while chatting to their seatmate or while responding or sending a text message. Most of the time, these are the students who would send me text messages to ask about this and that…
Back in college, I never had the chance to ask follow up questions to my adviser or teacher. I would patiently wait for the next meeting to ask my questions or make an appointment to see my teachers. Unlike today, students would just send text messages— that i do not answer sometimes because that answers are so obvious.
I guess today’s generation need to practice their thinking skills. they should be able to solve and analyze problems on their own… without consulting their teachers through sms. This skill is very important when they are in the real world—outside the university. They have to leave their comfort zones to be able to experience what real work is…
