grrrr
April 10, 2006It’s sooooo cold right now. I do not know the exact tempterature— but it really is cold…
But then during the day, you can really feel that summer time is here. It’s a good thing that it doesn’t rain in the afternoon… as reported earlier, we will be experiencing la nina during this season.
hmmm students have started internship for this summer. We gave them an orientation about activities they will be doing and also asked them about their expectations from others— MOST ESPECIALLY from the self.
Some of the students mentioned that they expect (us) their teachers to supervise them all throughout the internship… one of my co-faculty member commented that, (we) will be around for the intenship, but they should not expect us to be with them while they are in different partner agencies.
This issue raised brings me back to the time I had my internship…showing.
During my internship at the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod at elbi, I reported and went to the agency on my own. My instructor didn’t have to drag me to the agency. I was supervised by one Pahinungod staff— my intructor was not there to police on me.
I guess, one thing that they wanted us to learn at that wtime– was to diligently report for duty even when our instructor was not there to directly supervise us. Our instructor relied on the agencie’s rating for our performance. I can say that I was able to accomplish the tasks that were given to me— even when my instructor was not present to look at what i was doing… there comes another learned working habit— INITIATIVE.
One observation with students nowadays, is that they lack the initiative. There are some who need not to be reminded about requirements, while majority lack the drive to exceed the performance they are manifesting.
I just hope that with this intenship, they wouls be able to learn values that they will be needing for futher work— and as much as possible be able to practice these values the soonest– because even when these desirable values are recognized BUT are not practiced, it would be meaningless.
